Please describe your background i.e. include your major, class year, etc.
I am a third year student majoring in Business Administration at U.C. Berkeley. As a transfer student from a community college, I face a lot of difficulties in my transition especially when it comes to preparing for my future career. While others who went to U.C. Berkeley for their freshmen and sophomore years already knew the industry, have good connections, and are all ready for jobs interviews, I explore bit by bit and do a lot of research all by myself.
What type of advice did you seek out from your mentor?
I want to pursue a career in the financial sector, ideally in Wealth Management. I did not have a lot of knowledge and hoped to get to know more about the industry. Lauren, a registered client associate at one of the largest brokerage firms in the nation and my mentor, has answered a lot of my questions and provided me insights regarding a career in Wealth Management.
How has this helped you?
- Confidence: I have become more certain about pursuing a career in Wealth Management after getting to know more about the industry through Lauren. I know what to expect, what lies ahead, and how to prepare myself for it. I am excited to get into the industry knowing that I can always turn to Lauren for advice.
- Time Management: I saved a lot of time from researching on my own. I can now devote more time to more meaningful work, instead of a futile search for information.
- Stress Relief: Stress always comes from not knowing what we do not know. Lauren always provides extra information that I never thought about but might be useful to me. I suppose that is the most amazing thing about having a mentor: She/he knows what you ought to know!
