I have always been interested in the design aspect of buildings and other types of structures. I have gone to an ITT Tech campus and feel that a degree in Auto CAD is the best way. I am 25 years old working full time at a machine shop. I want to go to school for this degree but feel that it is out of reach at my current pay rate and situation. what would be my first step to begin schooling?

A degree in AutoCAD is not considered a design degree by any means, it's actually considered the opposite in architecture. By saying that I mean that a drafting tech or CAD user is usually the person who the designer hands his/her sketches to (from any medium) so that the CAD tech can draft them up for the CD set. If you want to design I would forget AutoCAD and begin building with your hands, drawing, painting, anything creative other than CAD generated dwg files.
