It really depends on what you want to go into. Biochemistry is a great field that opens a lot of doors. Most people work in labs, but I have a buddy that works for a brewery (his job requires at least a masters in biochemistry, who knew) and another that for a pharmaceutical company.

Once you decide what you want to go into, you can then figure out the answers to your questions.
