Connections are very important in acquiring things. Having a relationship with a person is actually half the battle. The other half is what you are taught. Being competent in what you are doing. Research is hard to get into because the lab is usually full and funds are relatively low. These were the responses I had. If you really want one... try to find as many labs as you can related to what you are interested in... even the littlest tiniest interest. Apply. Also be able to explain why you want to do research for them. Learn your passion and be able to explain it to the one who runs the lab. I personally was not able to get into a lab. But I was told to email as many lab professors as I could.
