I currently live in North Carolina. One of my favorite aspects of the area is how the solar industry is making inroads here. Towns such as XChapel Hill-Carrboro and Asheville are interested in the green movement. Durham, Raleigh, and Charlotte are bigger cities with a presence in green jobs, but I don't get as much of a vibe from the respective cities political leaders regarding this movement. That being said, there are jobs within companies with a green focus, as well as small start-ups.

Of special interest to me are the solar companies in the area, which are springing up with increasing frequency. Even if a company does not have a current job posted, I would contact them to see if they are planning an expansion in the future. Would you consider an internship? That might help you get inroads in a business.

We have major medical centers and universities here in the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill) which all have green components to them. While the entire corporation may not be green, that is a goal to which they are working. These entities represent the largest employers in the area.

I am a transplant from New York - I love the people here, the laid-back way of life, and the weather. I would highly recommend life in North Carolina!
