I was a music student when I started college but switched into chemistry. Years later, I "fell" into flavor chemistry and now I design flavors. So the creative aspects of music and my adoration of cooking came together into a nice mix since flavor chemistry also involves a lot of chemistry.
Music is creative. There are opportunities for creative scientists in consumer products companies like food companies, pet food companies, "shampoo and products" type of companies. Out of the box thinking that comes from having a music background can make a difference in creative areas of science.
