Why were the SI base quantities chosen as such?
Especially, why current (as opposed to resistance, electromotive force, etc.) and luminous intensity (as opposed to illuminance, emittance, etc.) were chosen to be base quantities.

From what I understand, it could have as well been resistance, potential difference, which are theoretical equivalents to the base unit 'current'. you are right in asking......Historically, one of them was chosen.
