My brother was also a math major. He chose to pursue a Phd to one day become a professor. That is certainly one career path but he encountered many others along the way. He also found that his skill set was very valuable to the government for everything from logistics planning in the military to applications in the intelligence community. Most recently, he has received interest from the financial world, which relies on complex algorithms for analysis and trading.
