You may want to look into options in the non-profit sector. Despite the name, careers can be made there!
I would recommend searching idealist.org in your area to find any opportunities there. At this point, it would be wise to simply seek out your state's listing of non-profits, start attending networking events (non-profit specific helps), and find what is out there that would interest you. There is absolutely non-profits that work specifically with kids with special needs.
