The best advice that anyone can give you is to first work for someone who has the type of business that you are considering. One learns much along the way and makes many mistakes is making a business successful. It is best that you start working with someone who has learned much along and way and has made the mistakes necessary to make a business successful. Although you think that you want to have your own business, don't tell that to the person with whom you are working, because, if you become the best employee that you can, you may end up owning the business or becoming a major player in the business. During my years in Human Resources and advising people such as yourself, I have seen that happen many times. If you are considering setting up your own business and want to know what is involved, there is a great free service - SCORE - that will provide free consulting and workshops. SCORE (Service Corp of Retired Executives) is a part of the Small Business Administration and has offices in many cities. They can be found at SCORE.ORG. I have worked with them and find them to be great people. The will assign to you executives who have been involved in business similar to the one you have in mind.
