Many office assistant positions do not require a certificate or degree of any kind. Experience is usually of primary concern.

A degree or certification may open more doors, or provide a small pay raise. However, you likely would spend more money on the education than you would make as a result. If you wish to rise through ranks past office assistant, then it may be more important (or if you just happen to enjoy learning).
