MBA is the quickest way to consulting or a Masters in a relevant field. Networking is always great of course, but a good degree from a good school should get foot in the door. For experienced candidates: masters degrees, industry experience, and a book of potential clients (in ascending order) is the best chance you'll have.

Get actively involved in consulting clubs- that way you get to mention it in your resume, you get opportunities to meet other consultants/consultant aspirants and you get a good leadership experience
