Adding to Ryannon's earlier comment, a Consultant is a person who is able to see the big picture. He/she doesn't just fix an immediate problem (such as low staff morale, or poor sales metrics), but more importantly, understands why this is happening, what other factors are impacting the situation, and who else may be impacted. Think of Consultants as "professors without the boring lectures." They think big, act strategically, and bring everyone together.
A Consultant is a professional that provides expert advice in a particular area, they can be internal (within a company) or external (another agency or freelance.)
