I completed an master's in clinical counseling but am no longer interested in seeking licensure and would like to switch to education counseling at a university level.
Have an Answer?
Absolutely. I would think that the school at which you've been working on your Master's would be able to advise you on what a university position would require. If not, I'd simply choose a university, get online, and shoot an email to a counselor and ask them how they got into that line of work. Most people love talking about the jobs and giving advice to people who want to know more about it.
Yes. You might want to checking to see what graduate courses in a school or department of education might be helpful. You probably won't need more than two, three at most is my guess. On the other hand, if you do some online information searching, check out the university programs that offer educational counseling courses and see what is in their content, read a couple of books on the subject and then talk to two or three universities that have educational counseling for students, you might find all the information you need. But there should be no real obstacle to transferring your career interests in this case.
