As far a job availability, think about what you would like to do. A job that pays well at the expense of your time, energy, and social/family life is not going to be worth it in the long run. Make sure you find something that you are interested in and start researching potential job opportunities in that field. It will narrow the scope of research to make a more informed and healthy decision when it comes to your future career success.
I personally do engineering in Houston, TX (Houston engineer salary average $62k - $116k) (National engineer salary average ($52k - $110k).
