This question has been studied a great number of very smart people. My suggestion would be to research what they have discovered and what science has unveiled about the psychology of human connection:
I'd start by reading a couple of books:
1) How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie
2) The Like Switch - An Ex-FBI Agent's Guide to Influence, Attracting, and Winning People Over by Jack Schafer
A very important piece of advice someone told me is to be interestED, not interestING. IF you spend more time listening to others than talking, they will walk away from the conversation thinking (man, I really like that person!" Also, ask them questions. It's a good prompt to get them to start talking about themselves.
As humans, we are REALLY good at talking about ourselves. When you give other people the opportunity to do that, you're golden to them. :)
