A good way to start this conversation is to call a private counseling center in your area and ask for an informational interview. Most are willing to talk to college students and enjoy explaining how their practice works. Even if they do not have this type position, they have worked in other centers and can guide you to talk to another person who may lead you to your internship. The best way is not to ask for the job but for a referral. It puts them at ease and if they have a position, they might offer it to you, especially if you explain that you are willing to work for peanuts to get the experience. I hope this was helpful.
