I will be graduating with a BA in Business Economics and Finance. I'm looking to start my career as investment banking or financial analyst. I'm wondering if I should get a MA in econ at CSU East Bay and maybe later try to get a MBA and/or a Ph.D. in econ at an UC,Berkeley? (Second) I would be to try to work in an internship or position for some years then try to get into UCs for my M.B.A.? Which choice would be better, and is a MA in econ respected by investment banks or commercial banks?

Hi, I love your ambition. How are your grades? Are you good at school? You will need dedication to get a PHd. It is always a great thing if you can get actual work experience before pursuing higher education. If you can get 2 years or so of good business experience, that will put you in an even better position to make a decision on continuing your education in finance or economics. If getting a job right now proves difficult, get back into school, but keep looking. I really believe that work experience is invaluable. As for whether or not an advnaced degree in economics is respected - it very much is. Economics would be a great degree to have for the pursuit of investment banking or commerical banking. The theories and practices that are studied in Economics are the fundamentals of banking. Go get 'em.
