There are many opportunities out there for someone with a Finance degree! I'm a finance major myself and I first started in College with an internship at a Financial Planning firm in Chicago. All I did was...cold call! Not so glamorous, but I got great exposure to the financial industry just by being around Financial Planners and helping them with whatever they needed. I then landed an internship at the Chicago Stock Exchange, as a Stock Clerk for one of the firms on the floor of the Stock Exchange. After graduating with a Finance degree, I landed a consulting job with a Big 4 Consulting Firm doing Business Consulting. There was some Finance involved, but I had to use a lot of other skills like presentations, spreadsheets, and face-to-face client engagements. It was Finance heavy, but I learned a lot and got a great company on my Resume!
But, you could get into anything starting with any type of financial institution. A Bank is a great way into the Financial Institution sector and Banks are every where! You can start as a Teller or maybe even a Mortgage Banker, if you have some college experience to show for. The most important thing is to get your feet wet as soon as you can. Don't wait for the "ideal job", because you won't know what is ideal for you, until you try something first. Good luck and take action! :)
Potential career options with a degree in Finance would be;
1. Financial Analyst
2. Pricing Analyst
3. Investment Consultant
4. Financial Advisor
5. Financial Planner
6. Financial Services - IT or Operations
All the Best
There are endless "good" jobs you can get with a degree in finance. You can go into investments such as investment banking like the bankers on wall st., or you can go work for any company and handle how they manage their money and how they allocate their funds. Often times the 2nd most powerful person in a company is CFO (Chief Financial Officer) right after the CEO (Chief Executive Officer). Good luck!
