You need to start somewhere and build a reputation showing your reliability and willingness to do anything related to the job. You don't need to clean toilets, but if, for example, people other than the cleaning staff help in a "cleaning" effort, such as cleaning up something which is spilled, you can offer to assist - especially if it will only take a few minutes of your time. Search all of the Cabinet departments, and their agencies and services (DEA, BLM, NPS, BIA, etc.) and see what internships are available. Act maturely, without prejudice, and follow the professional behavior of others. Offer to work wherever the boss would like to place you. Use your office time to perform office work. Be on-time, consistent, honest and willing to learn and contribute.
