I recently had a mentee who was interested in careers involving international social work. I did a bit of research for her and found three governmental or non-profit agencies that focus on international issues. The Peace Corp is involved in confronting poverty, hunger and health issues worldwide. The U.S. Department of State oversees refugee resettlement and human trafficking issues and involves background in international studies/cultures. UNICEF, a non-profit agency, also is involved in children's issues worldwide. Some of the agencies, the latter two, offer internships to students interested in learning more about them. Additionally, the websites for all the organizations contain a wealth of information that could provide more details about other career possibilities. They are www.peacecorps.gov; www.state.gov; and www.unicef.org.
