Think about what draws you to teaching.
Teachers of younger students generally require more knowledge about human development than about the subject matter. To teach a child to read, for example, you need to know more about how a child learns and processes language than you need to know about the actual practice of reading.
If your interest is primarily in a subject matter area, you will want to teach older children or adults. Teachers of younger students also usually become involved with helping the students families grow as a unit. People teaching high school or college are more likely to become mentors in a specific area to the individual students.
