It really comes down to which parts of the world you find interesting. How does your brain process the world around you. What way of looking at the world do you find makes the most sense. From their, you can begin to determine which type of engineering fits you the best.

The choice depends very much on whether you prefer dynamic or equipment or static forms of engineering.
Dynamic engineering includes mechanical (eg cars/ process equipment ), industrial (eg industrial/process systems), marine and aeronautical.
Static engineering includes civil (e.g. transportation and stormwater systems), structural (eg bridges/ buildings), environmental (eg water/wasterwater treatment), geotechnical (eg foundations) and electrical.
I myself graduated as a civil engineer, which is a fairly general qualification and enabled me versatility to try out civil, structural and environmental engineering.
