That's like asking which color is the best. It depends on what you are looking for and your personal preferences. I love being a Mechanical Engineer since system dynamics, vibrations, and optimization fascinates me. In terms of pure career potential, however, I would have done better as a Computer/Software Engineer or a Chemical Engineer. That being said I'm earning enough money on my own to put me and my wife in the top 25% of household incomes, even though she is a stay-at-home mom. At the end of the day, having a job you love going to in the morning is a lot more important than making 10%-15% more in a profession you hate.
That depends on your preference for engineering involving either moving or static system design.
Mechanical, Aeronautical and Industrial engineering all result in equipment that will perform a function. such as cars, aircraft, mechanical devices etc
Civil, Structural, Environmental, Geotechnical and Hydrogeological engineering are concerned with designs of stationary infrastructure such as roads, buildings, bridges, water/ wastewater treatment plants, environmental remediation systems, groundwater supply etc.
