The practice of psychotherapy begins with listening. However, there are other strengths required to be an effective therapist. Strong critical thinking skills, adherence to and understanding of evidence-based techniques, and an empathetic nature are the allies of a good therapist.

To become a licensed therapist, you will need to obtain a Bachelor's degree and then a Master's degree in an eligible discipline. Please investigate these options, as there is more information than I can provide here.
