I currently work at a social service agency and graduated with a BA in Psychology and minor in human relations. I also volunteered at community mental health centers. I'd say make sure either your coursework or experiences reflect working with people and communicating well with others.
Many college will have a Social Work degree. Some are through majors that are directed to Human Services. For example the college I went to had a Human Development and Family Studies major and through this you were able to do an emphasis in Social Work. It's a great field to go into.. I would research your local colleges, call any admission advisors about their programs and set up meetings with department counselors specific to Human Services.
