There are many types of meeting planners--corporate meeting planners, non-profit/association planners, social/wedding planners. There are also SUPPLIER meeting planners, they typically work for venues and organize the events at their venue. A similar position would be a venue sales person. In hotels, these might be called Catering Sales Manager, Hotel Sales Manager, Director of Sales.

There are usually Executive Assistant jobs that have elements of event planning. Associations may hire Fundraising Specialists or Event Directors for their specific fundraising events.

I'm not familiar enough with online school that offer degrees in this field. I would suggest doing some research with Meeting Professionals International, maybe even attending a meeting and speaking with the meeting planners/suppliers there, they can offer a lot of insight. Job shadowing is great too.
