The main job of an IT Support specialist is to maintain ongoing IT operations. In companies, usually there are three levels of support - Call Center support---> Back Office support ------> IT Support.

An IT support specialist is often expected to conduct root cause analysis for issues in ongoing IT operations. He needs to think and act from an IT system optimization standpoint and make sure that operations are running smoothly.
