Pay scales are highly dependent on the agency you work for and their budget. For example, a local municipality may not pay as well as perhaps the state police, and federal positions usually pay the highest. Think about what level of the government you may want to work for and then look into what their pay scales are. Although wage is very important, I would urge you to also look at what the other benefits are and what your potential job duties would be and where. You want to make sure the job is an overall fit for you and your life, and that you will be content with the choice and the benefits that come with it (pay, health insurance, education benefits, etc.)
