If you have been successful with your real estate advertising, it is likely due to your having grasped the more fundamental principles of advertising, such as knowing your product, assessing your potential customers' needs, positioning your product, determining the most effective media for your messages, etc. These fundamental principles are applicable to virtually all other products and fields. If you want to approach "a more technical field," however you define that, you want to emphasize not so much your ability to sell houses, but rather your ability to apply fundamental advertising principles to the new field. A good start would be to learn as much as you can about whatever field it is you'd like to move into. Since this would be one of those fundamental steps to take.
