Journalism and Public Relations (PR) go hand in hand together. Marketing PR plays a very important role to a company by being the "face" and/or "voice" of a companies image. When I think of Ben & Jerry Ice cream I think they must have a very strong PR department. They seem to be very community and socially conscious. This takes a good PR team and/outside firm to accomplish.
Conversely it can help a company recover from a very public or internal crisis. Ever heard the term "PR nightmare"? I'd suggest it takes companies numerous talents including Journalism to fix and address a PR nightmare.
Journalism can also assist with developing and documenting marketing strategies that are very in-depth and comprehensive. Getting on "paper' what an extensive marketing plan looks like is very important.
