Most people think of marketing in terms of advertising and common house hold brands that you purchase at home or online. I have spent my career in this space and my favorite definition of it is: "Marketing is everything.” — Regis McKenna

This statement exemplifies the school of thought that everything you do – not just your products, pricing, promotion, and distribution, but even your billing, how you answer the phone, your speed of handling problems –it all affects how your customer perceives your company, so everything is marketing. So very true...and fun.

In it's purest sense Marketing is the activity, set of institutions (Like Manufacturers & the Dealers or companies that sell them), and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large.

Established companies like Ford, Caterpillar, Toyota do very well in Marketing as well Apple, Skull Candy not to mention the NBA and Nike. Pretty diverse group right?!?

So it really comes down to getting your degree and learning about the discipline it self and what draws you to it. Advertising & Promotion, Pricing (Personally not a fan but its of huge importantance. Place (Huge right now brick & mortar stores vs on-line)
