I went through the same thing, sort of, when I turned 45. I had been in retail for over 20 years but wanted a career more fulfilling but I didn't want to go back to college. I became a dialysis patient care tech. That in itself was extremely fulfilling but it also opened several doors as far as paid tuition for nursing school, biomedical training, and the opportunity for management. I ended up doing this for 20 years and just recently retired. You might want to look into this.
