I am looking into taking an online Associates Medical Assisting program, but in the future would like to cross over into Nursing. Currently, I can only do Online classes. How can I go about doing that? Would I have to start over? Is this a good career path for me? Are there any Nursing degrees I can do online?
Have an Answer?

If you are interested in nursing but only have the flexibility of taking online courses at this time; I would start with enrolling in a community college with a program of nursing at the AA or ASN level. You will have to start with pre-requisite classes first before you enter into the specific nursing courses. At this level, your pre-requisites might take a year or more and this depends if you are going full-time or part-time. In your initial research of schools to attend, check the schools accreditation in nursing, check if the school has your pre-requisite classes on line, how long is the program, and how long it will take you to get into the nursing program, and cost.
Be careful with registering with online programs that make promises that you will gain immediate employment in the nursing field; whether you will be a medical assistant, medical aide, health aide etc. Make sure the school is accredited, check the schools track record of graduation and hiring of students. At this time, I know of no online medical assistance program courses that can be transferred towards a nursing degree unless they are affiliated with a school of nursing or college. Be very careful, I have known a few people who have lost a lot of time and money only to find out that no one will accept a particular schools certificate or program of study for employment or transfer of school credits. Do your research first; I cannot stress this enough. In the meantime here are a few schools that have online nursing programs (some of your clinical courses will need to be onsite) : Phoenix School of Nursing, Chamberlain School of Nursing, Drexel University, Walden University. There are quite a few more. Let me know if you have further questions in this area.
