I was also an English major (doubling with psychology). I thought I wanted to be a psychiatrist until I read a psychiatric journal. That helped me realize how strongly biological the scope is. I was ABLE to understand it, but it was boring because I was more interested in what the client or patient would have had to say. I ended up getting an MS in counseling psychology, instead. Google psychiatric scholarly article and do some reading. See if it's the kind of helping you wanted to do.
