First off, it's great to see that you are interested in helping out the community. I have 20+ years of experience in the mental health/behavioral health field, starting up and implementing various programs for underprivileged youths in the Bay Area of California. There are multiple ways you can get involved in a career path that will enable you to work with underprivileged youths, so it will depend on the type of work you choose. If you are seeking something interactive, engaging with them directly, you can look into something like a Case Manager, Homeless Outreach Worker, Counselor, or the likes. If you are seeking something different that is more behind-the-scenes, you can look into a role in a Development/Fund Raising platform, Advocacy, or awareness roles where you are educating the community in available resources, etc. First thing I would recommend is to do some research on the various programs/companies that provide such services, and seek out some opportunities to connect with people working there, and get a chance to do some informational interviews to get an idea of what the different roles in the companies do, and get a better feel for what you specifically want to pursue.
