Find a mentor. Immediately! Your SNCOs (E-7 E-9) are going to be the best mentors for you. Go into your position with confidence, but not with the air that you know everything. In most cases, you are expected to know it all. Remember . Your people are smarter than you. Use them! Set clear and attainable expectations for your soldiers. Praise them when they meet those expectations. Guide them when they fail to meet them and ask if your expectations were clear and attainable.

Ask your CSM and a few NCOs to a meal or coffee and get some background on them as well as yourself. As a leader, disarm your peers and NCOs by doing something of this nature. Let em know where you are coming from and throw some ideas out there. Appreciate all they can do for you. Without them you would not be in your position/rank!
