I'm currently in my senior year of high school and I am having an extremely hard time deciding what I want to major in when I go to college. One of the only things that really interests me is music. I would really enjoy majoring in flute performance, but that seems so impractical to me and to everyone I have talked to about it. I have tried to find something else to major in, or possibly even double major in, but nothing else appeals to me or seems like it would fit me. Do you have any advice?

Hi how are you? I too play flute, been playing for 22 years now. I have always loved to play, but never majored in this area. I know plenty of people who played for many years, but majored in Criminal Justice, Accounting, Political Science. It just comes down to what you want to do. It's good to take advice, but what do you want to do. Of course a Music Major doesn't seem practical, but if it's what you love to do, you will not be able to walk away from it and you will never be satisfied without it being in your life. You don't have to Major in Flute, but you can find other things to do like Concert Bands, Orchestras. What does your city or local college have to offer concerning different music groups. I was in a Concert Band and an Orchestra on the side, with the other work that I did which included my regular college band duties.
