There are so many options within a nonprofit organization that you can excel in, but it depends on where your interest lies. There's executive director, fund management/development to help keep the organization going, program director or coordinator for the program side of things, volunteer coordinator, events planning, communications, administrative, grants specialist, etc.
It's important to get an idea where you are wanting to go careerwise to determine which path you are wanting to go in. I personally prefer the programming aspect because I work primarily with our constituents, but it's not for everyone.

Look into AmeriCorps. You can serve in a variety of non profits all around the country.
