I would highly recommend that you look for internships at child welfare/social service agencies both to gain experience and try out the field to see if this is indeed a field of work that interests you. Volunteering is a great way to get involved too - if you don't have the time to commit to an internship.

Since you are a freshman, I would suggest you focus on your general education. However, you should already have an interest in a field or area of study. Singing sounds like a hobby, helping others is what drives you and me. I'd say look into the Sociology and Social Work field as an undergraduate and gain as much work experience as possible. Work during the summer so you can have an idea about what you really want.
