In my experience in industry, project managers acquired their skills through experience participating in projects as a project member, and through outside certification. The most common certification for project management is PMP (Project Management Professional), which is given through the Project Management Institute (PMI). Taking certification courses through PMI will cost money, though.

Alternatively, you could get an introduction to project management by taking online Coursera courses. Coursera courses are free, if you don't care about getting a Coursera certificate. Coursera has a Project Management specialization consisting of a sequence of 4 Project Management courses. The link is:

If you're planning on going to college and eventually want to manage non-profit projects or NGO's, you could major in business.
