I currently serve as a Social Media Manager. Social media is such a broad industry within various industries. You can do a lot with it. I think when it comes to social media, it's all about what industry you want to be in. For example, I work for a locksmith marketing company. We market other smaller industries as well, but locksmithing is our main focus. But there are plenty of other businesses/companies you can work for that offer marketing for different industries. Some companies are broad marketers and market by individual clients, rather than defining a single industry to represent.
As for online, that's really vague. I'm not entirely sure what that entails. If you're talking computers, there's a lot you can do there as well. Graphic/web design, editing, writing, programming, etc. The list is endless depending what "online," truly entails.
