My junior and senior year of high school I wanted to be a news reporter, too. I started my first semester in college as undeclared, so I could get my simple basics (Math, English, Science, just simple 15 hour courses), and the second semester I was a broadcast journalism major. I learned so much about behind the scenes of news reporting/field reporting and I was able to be an anchor several times for the University's news station that was broadcast among the community.

I have since then changed my major several times, I am now a communication major. I hope this has helped you some!
