I was in a similar position recently. The way I made the transition was getting hired at a company that had a big project ongoing that they needed help with. They were doing a lot of hiring and had some flexibility in the assignments, so I managed to move over to a project management role.

Another option is to develop a skill on the side, perhaps doing some freelance work, to help you make the transition. From sales a natural transition could be to CRM administration or sales operations.

Most of all, try to find people with flexible attitudes that have soft boundaries in their company. You could also talk to friends and acquaintances who might be able to help. Good luck!
