When you're applying for grants, make sure to fill in as completely as you can with your best of acknowledgements. The results are up to them either GRANTED or UNFAVORABLE. I was 15 worked @ Kmart (back in the old days). I'd earned my scholarships while working. Then of course I got some from them, from the Hospital in town.

This depends on the state and school that you're attending. Typically, the grant amount(s) that shows up on your FAFSA will be what you will receive the entire year and will be divided equally amongst your regular semesters/quarters. Note that this usually excludes summer semester/quarter.
However it is always possible to receive another non-state or non-university grant if you have a specific area of research. If this is the case, go to your major's department and ask what grant and scholarship options are available. And always, always, always apply to what free money you can!
