My name is Melissa Phillips and I currently serve as an assistant professor of special education in San Diego, California. I have always wanted to be a teacher as long as I can remember. After working in the public and non-public school settings for 15 years with all levels of abilities and disabilities, I realized that I could be an even bigger change agent by teaching future educators. My goal is to train teachers to provide an equal education to every student regardless of economic background, cultural heritage, or intellectual ability.
Since joining StudentMentor.org I have mentored several undergraduate students who were interested in the education field and needed direction on options available, how to apply for graduate school, and advice on student loans. Being able to serve as a mentor to future educators, administrators, education lawyers, and advocates makes me proud; I am honored that they chose me as a mentor, and trust that I will guide them in the right direction.
I wholeheartedly recommend StudentMentor.org to other professionals as it is so important to give back to the professional community, and keep in touch with aspiring leaders.
