Stephanie’s Story

Stephanie NO LAST NAME

What’s your current job? How has mentoring impacted your life (in college, in the workplace, etc.)?

My name is Stephanie and I am a graduate student pursuing a degree in mental health counseling. Mentoring has allowed me to use my years of experience in college and life in general to empower individuals to make positive changes in their life. It gives me great sense of pride and accomplishment when I can help someone achieve their potential.

What specific things have you been helping your mentee(s) with and how has this experience been for you?

Mentoring has been an extremely rewarding experience for me. I have been helping my mentees focus their interests and sort out options in regards to their career paths. We have also focused on the adjustment from high school to college life and also the process of entering various career fields, in particular the fields of psychology and mental health.

Why is mentoring important to you? To society as a whole?

Mentoring is important to me because I firmly believe that knowledge is power. Those who are bestowed with the gift of knowledge either through going through certain experience or formally educated at a University have a responsibility to use that knowledge for the betterment of society. If I know something that can help alleviate someone’s pain, anxiety, worry, or just make them feel good, why wouldn’t I share that?
